FINANCIAL INSTITUTIONS:

THE WORLD BANK (WB)

WB comprise two institutions managed by 187 member countries: the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) and the International Development Association (IDA). The IBRD aims to reduce poverty in middle-income and creditworthy poorer countries, while IDA focuses exclusively on the world’s poorest countries. These institutions are part of a larger body known as the World Bank Group.

ASIAN DEVELOPMENT BANK (ADB)

The Lao People’s Democratic Republic (Lao PDR) joined ADB at its founding in 1966 and, as of the end of December 2010, has received approved loans and grants totaling $1.60 billion, with technical assistance projects amounting to $133.1 million. ADB has extended development assistance to the Lao PDR since 1968 and remains the largest multilateral financier of the country.

Sustainable Forestry and Rural Development Project  (SUFORD)

The objective of the Sustainable Forestry for Rural Development (SUFORD) Project for Lao People’s Democratic Republic is to assist the borrower to achieve the sustainable management of production forests to alleviate rural poverty in the project provinces by implementing the forest policy reform actions and policies set forth in its letter of forest management policy

the project’s purpose is to build up the WREA and provincial environmental authorities so they are more sustainable, qualified, and capable of using updated tools and methods in compliance monitoring to fulfil their legal mandate
